Sing Healthy Choirs Bracknell - About the choir

singhealthychoirs - Bracknell Community ChoirThis choir sings a wide range of popular music from Ray Charles to Carole King and Bob Dylan. They always perform an annual concert for charity and this year is working on songs from the musicals as well as a number of new arrangements of popular pieces.

We have the luxury of being able to arrange music especially for the choir. This means that we can look at a much bigger canvas when considering songs to rehearse and perform. It also means that the choir members have more opportunity to suggest songs they like and we can then arrange these to suit.

The 2016/17 programme featured songs by Lily Allen, The Carpenters, Ray Davies (The Kinks), Paul McCartney, John Lennon and a Sir John Betjeman poem arranged by Mike Read (DJ and TV host).

In March 2016 the choir took part in a world premiere of a new composition by renowned composer Bob Chilcott. The piece, The Voyage, was commissioned by AGE UK as part of their Campaign to End Loneliness initiative. The concert was performed in Reading Concert Hall on March 19, 2016 with the composer Bob Chilcott conducting and our Bracknell and Wokingham choirs are joining with two other local choirs to sing the work.

The emphasis is on making music fun, but still a social activity. We sing all our pieces in four parts just like a traditional choir, but helping our singers to develop new skills and experiences. The charities we are working for this year are Oxfam Nepal Earthquake Fund and Thames Valley Air Ambulance.
